The American Red Cross is the foremost volunteer emergency services organization. Over 100 local volunteers and 2 paid staff members help people in our communities throughout Surry County , North Carolina .

“When you help the American Red Cross, you help America .” Getting involved with the American Red Cross helps build strong communities as well as a strong nation.

Disaster Services

Last year in our community the American Red Cross volunteer and paid staff responded to more than 50 house fires as well as other disasters in Surry County . We help by providing food, clothing, shelter, and other emergency needs. Red Cross assistance is free. Red Cross chapters are involved long before disasters occur, educating the community on how to be prepared.

Armed Forces Emergency Services

The Surry County Red Cross provided emergency communications for 70 military families last year and reached 75 military families through our outreach program, “Get to Know Us Before You Need Us.”

Health and Safety

Our Health and Safety Program offers a full range of Red Cross courses. The Surry County Chapter trained over 5,000 people in courses such as CPR/AED, first aid, Blood borne pathogens, family care-giving, work safety, as well as life guarding, swimming and water safety.

Blood Services

More than 7,000 pints of blood were collected from volunteer donors in Surry County last year. One pint of blood can save as many as 3 lives.
